We are a Neurodiversity Affirming Practice!

Neurodiversity affirming practices are a commitment to being inclusive, to flatten discriminatory thinking and attitudes.

Neurodiversity refers to the fact that every human being has different brain wiring and we see the world from our own unique perspective, with our own set of skills and abilities. That just makes sense, right?

Being neurodiversity affirming also means taking into consideration that there are also people who are neurodivergent - that is having a brain that it wired differently from that which may be seen as typical. We love this because it aligns directly with our values โ€“ celebrating our community through a curious and compassionate lens. It also means creatively considering how we can collaborate with people to build connection in a way that suits their individual differences, rather than trying to make them like everyone else (boring!) Cool, huh?

So, who is neurodivergent? Well, you may be diagnosed with autism, ADHD, dyspraxia or dyslexia to name a few. All of the therapists at Hobart Wonderings are experts at making the environment, tasks and goals fit you, rather than change you to blend in with the โ€œtypicalโ€ world. It means we are experts at flipping things on their head and using your own strengths, skills and capacities as tools to succeed! Win-win!

We are running a workshop for parents (IN PERSON OR ONLINE) to embrace this approach and to help you to support your child to be the best version of themselves that sits with who they are. This approach supports growth in self esteem, confidence, social participation and reduces the risk of mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.
